Gillian Keegan – Fishbourne news October 2020

Your MP – Gillian Keegan has recently visited Cornelius House in Fishbourne and attended a meeting about a potential cycle route on the A259 between Chichester and Emsworth. Here is what she had to say:

A couple of weeks ago I visited Cornelius House care home in Fishbourne to see how they were getting on and I’m pleased to report they are doing a brilliant job keeping their staff and residents safe under difficult circumstances. Every precaution is being put in place with staff tested weekly, and residents monthly, as well as being kept at a distance with their food now being brought to their rooms by staff in full PPE. Where residents require hospital treatment, they have minimal contact in hospital and are kept in total isolation and regularly tested on their return for a period of time.

On a separate note, I recently held a roundtable event to discuss the proposals to update the cycle route along the A259, known locally as the ‘Chemroute’. The event was attended by myself, local residents and councillors, as well as representatives from the Department of Transport, and Highways England who are the body tasked with taking this project forward. It is clear that the existing cycle route needs significant improvement to encourage more people to use it and make cycling locally safer. Moving forward the current plans are being revised in light of new guidance issued by the Government, and it is reassuring that there will be early engagement with local authorities and the wider community before this project is taken any further. I will keep you updated as progress is made.
